How to Pay your CRA Balance Online

Paying your taxes or other amounts owed to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) online is a fast, secure, and convenient process. Here are the most common methods:

For Individuals:

No matter which method you choose, payments are not always instant. Allow for processing time to avoid penalties. For a full list of payment options, visit the official CRA page: Canada.ca/payments-cra

Option 1: Online Banking

Log in to your financial institution’s online banking website or app.

Navigate to the “Pay Bills” or “Add Payee” section.

Set up the CRA as a new payee. You can search for them using one of the following names:

CRA Tax – 2025 Balance Owing

Canada Revenue Agency – Tax Amount Owed

Enter your 9-digit Social Insurance Number (SIN) as the “Account Number.”

Enter the payment amount and the date you want the payment processed.

💡 Important: It can take 3-5 business days for your payment to reach the CRA. To avoid late fees or interest, schedule your payment well before the due date.

Option 2: Through CRA My account

Log in to your CRA My Account.

Select “Pay Now” under the “Overview” page or in the “Account Details” section.

Choose “Pay by online banking.” You will be redirected to the Interac® service.

Select your financial institution, log in, and complete the payment.

Option 3: Pre-authorized Debit (From My Account)

If you have a bank account set up in My Account, you can use it to make a payment immediately or schedule one for a future date.

In CRA My Account, go to “Make a Payment”.

Select “Pre-authorized Debit.”

Choose your bank account, enter the amount, and select the payment date.

For Businesses

Ensure your corporate remittances are processed securely and efficiently using the following methods. To avoid misapplication of payments, it is strongly advised to make all business payments through your corporate bank account.

Online Banking

  • Log in to your corporate online banking portal.
  • Navigate to the “Pay Bills” or “Manage Payees” section.
  • Add the CRA as a Payee. Search for one of the following:
  • Canada Revenue Agency – Tax Amount Owed
  • CRA Tax – 2025 Balance Owing
  • Enter Your CRA Program Account Number.
  • Your account number is your 9-digit Business Number (BN) followed by the appropriate 4-letter program suffix.
  • Common Program Codes:
    • RC0001 for Corporation Income Tax (T2)
    • RT0001 for GST/HST Remittance
    • RP0001 for Payroll Source Deductions
    • RZ0001 for Information Returns
  • Example: To remit GST/HST, if your BN is 123456789, enter 123456789RT0001 as the account number.
  • 📌 Note: Always confirm the correct suffix on your latest CRA notice or statement of account.

Option 2: Through CRA My Business Account

  • Log in to your CRA My Business Account.
  • Select the relevant program account (e.g., RP, RT).
  • Click on “Make a Payment” or “Pay Now”.
  • Choose “Pre-authorized Debit” and select the bank account you have registered.
  • Enter the amount and schedule the payment date.
